I installed one during my 103 build, it seems to compensate as advertised, but it also seems to be a clunky sumbitch.
I've had the primary open 2 times since finishing the build, everything appears as it should, and is torqued to spec etc etc.. Tensioner, chain and clutch all in good order too. Ran the bike with the cover off and it is indeed the compensator that is clunky. It works like a compensator should, just seems like its always playing catch up with the lope of motor.
Perhaps the 583 cams have something to do with it. I dunno...
Wondering if anyone has a clunky BDL compensator...
Bumping this as i am not convinced my BDL Comp is working right. Just too dang clunky/noisy. Interested to hear from others with a BDL comp installed.
Also, once installed was it necessary to tighten up the tensioner to reduce primary chain play? Mine looks like its thrashing about a good 3/4 inch up and down... Think I read somewhere that about 3/8 inch is about right.
On the tech site there were a bunch of reports of them not working right. That being said I have no experience with them.
One that I do have experience with is my baker compensator
