Well, here is where I'm at (of course there's a pic!):
Obviously, the compensator nut needs to come off (what size is that thing?), primary chain (looks like it needs a serious adjustment, and sprocket. Then what? Remember, I'm doing all this sans manual (have one ordered, waiting) and relying on the forum and google, so please be nice.
So far, everything has been pretty obvious and fairly simple, but this stage of the teardown seems like it may have specific (and crucial) procedures, and I don't wanna F anything up. Should I wait for the manual to come in?
As a side note, is there supposed to be a lot of "wiggle" in the drive gear on the starter? Seems a little "sloppy" to me (another pic!):

The compensator, the chain, and clutch hub all come out at the same time. Compensator nut is something like 1 1/2, the chain adjuster needs to be freed, the clutch hub is left handed thread. Not the lock nut there, you need to take that clutch adjuster out. The chain tightens as it gets hot. My book says something like 5/8"-7/8" play in the middle when cold. Yours looks about right.
1 1/2" socket on the comp.
1 5/16" socket for the clutch left hand thread.
The jackshaft's outter support is the bushing in the primary cover.
You need a tool to lock the primary gears/chain.
You can make one out of some teflon or even use a old tensioner shoe.
Try not to use a impact on the compensator, can risk knocking the magnets loose in the rotor.
Hard to tell from that picture, but check the comp. sprocket for wear, make sure teeth are not wore to a sharp point.
and check if you still have enough adjustment left to tighten the chain with 5/8 to 7/8 slack measured at the top, midway between the comp. and the clutch sprckets
There is a healthy debate about using impact drivers here. I've used impact. I've tried locking up the chain and using a breaker bar, but it's brutal! I've never damaged the rotor, but I've read that impact could knock things out of alignment on the crank. I've never had a problem, but I'd rather not if I ever go there again.
The shop I used to hang out at would pull a motor without pulling the inner primary. Leave it all on there, just pull the compensator nut off, undo the bolts, pull the motor out leaving the inner primary alone. I think they left the clutch on too, but it's been a while since I saw it done.

I was told by an indie to do it that way. It would take more hands than I have.
Thank guys. I've been youtubin' it for a coupla hours, looks pretty easy. The Dr. is right, if you pull the tensioner you should be able to get the comp and sprocket off without touching the clutch. Gotta go round up that BA socket, and then I'll have at it...
