Great question as this is my winter time project as well. I know we have two connectors which mate into one. So what I dont know is, if we disconnect both our gauges, plug one of them into a new speedo/tach combo, leave the other disconnected, if anything would "freak out" on the electronics side. Sub'ing from more details/answers
On the pre-canbus bikes you can definitely lose the tach. I swapped out the LR dash for a wideglide dash to move the ignition switch up top and used the speedo only until I figured out something to do with the tach.
As far as the console, If I recall the Street Bob, Wide Glide and Low Rider all used the same tank. Not sure if that was always but for 08-09 it worked.
Im on a 07 lowrider was going to switch to 1 of throes Dakota digitals that has the yak and speedo in 1 just really confused on if every thing would fit if I swapped the dash to a wide glide or street bob dash Im new to Harleys so very very confused
As for your 07, you are precanbus. I have the same dilemma has you do though, we have two plugs coming from the brain area of the bike. I would assume they are interchangeable, but I dont know. I cant tell for sure, that each plug carries the data needed to run a tach/speedo combo gauge, or if its truly setup for one gauge speedo, one gauge tach.
Here is the diagram from the service manual, but even after reading my service manual, it made no distinction for the FXDL... just that they are both 12 pin connections
