Tried the nylon and dental floss methods to remove the tank badge and nearly cut my fingers off ... much simpler method is pinch one of your kids plastic rulers from their school pencil case and push it along the badge ... it bends to follow the tank profile and you can use enough controlled force to ease the badge off without worrying about scratching the tank or ripping the ends off your fingers, works on fork reflectors too ... even on a cold English day ! I was going to replace with another badge but I'm not sure I won't just leave it bare, I like it ... opinions welcome !

Tried the same deal with floss and fishing line on my reflectors and then said screw it. Took a piece of paper (to keep from scratching the paint) and small flathead screwdriver to it. Reflectors broke but came off without scratching the bike. Then, I used Goo-Gone to remove the adhesive tape. No problems.

 

Go to the auto parts store or an automotive paint supplier and get a 1 quart can of "prep sol" its what they use to clean the painted surfaces of glues, wax and other contaminates before they paint.
Just squirt some along the name plate once every 3 minutes 4 or 5 times then wait about 15 minutes. After that they allmost fall off with little effort. Wax her up and your good to go, I like the looks with no name and cleaning is much easier.
All thats behind thename plate is some kind of sticky sponge stuff.

 

I hope everybody tries to just peel the damn things off first, before going to all this trouble!

 

I just peeled mine off...They came off really easy nothing else needed...I used my thumb to rub off the extra adhesive and than washed the tank....

 

I’ve used W-D40, let sit a minute or two and
a large plastic tie to pull on the part being removed.

i did mine w/ the wire but I USED MY RIDING GLOVES to keep it from cutting my fingers.................HELLO!!

 

i took mine off the other evening the same wayas dailydriver..... and was going to replace them with something else, but i kind of like the bare look ....it's prompted me to think about some pinstriping! ....i'm leaving it alone, for now

 

I was too scared of the edges digging in and scratching ... and I think they stick on more in the cold ! I broke dental floss several times before my fingers gave up ... but I'm with you on the bare look ... already had one person ask if its a Harley ... obviously I said no 'its a Yamaha' !
