Mid pegs and forward controls appeals to me also. I like being able to stand up on the mid pegs on our lovely Pennsylvania roads. Hitting the expansion joints at the edge of bridges around here feels like your tailbone is gona split your jaw. I prefer the forward riding position though.
i've been doing this since my first '98 dyna (as i'm sure many others here do too) It works great. Helps ride longer with less discomfort. Here's a couple of pics that show the bike with both pegs, sorry don't have better pics. Both pics show them folded up, I always push them up when about to get into town because they tend to getin your way when putting down your legs to stop after you're used to forwards. I remove the mids when not on a long trip.
I like my mid pegs and forward controls. I used smaller diameter pegs than stock on the mids so they wouldn't get in the way and they work great. Makes for some variety on long rides.
DanoTime
it shouldn't be too much problem setting up both mid controls and forward controls to work simultaneously.
i would start by purchasing a complete forward control kit from your dealer.
you will need to fabricate only two shafts - one to connect the forward brake pedal to the connecting point of the mid brake pedal to the braking rod, and the other to connect the forward shift lever to the connecting point of the mid shift linkage located behind and above the primary case.
both new linkages can be made from clevis joints mounted to a threaded rod.
Great Discussion everyone, thanks for the input and feedback.
I think I'm going to start with the Mid Pegs (with the smaller diameter - good suggestion) and Fwd controls then fabricate the connectors and try out both (mid AND fwd) controls and see what I like.
I added mid mini-footboards to my WG. I bought the brackets and mini-boards off eBay. I bolt them on for longer trips. The only downside is that with the mini-boards I have to put my feet down in a little different location. And if not carefull while backing up the bike my shin takes a beating. Other than that, it's nice to have them. I seldom ride with both feet on the boards...usually just one at a time or I feel cramped.
