I hope this doesn't come back and bite me in the *** but...
I don't post here much anymore for one reason: My 06 runs beautifully. You wanna know what work I've had to do on the bike outside of upgrade-related work I've done? Here they are:
Regularly schedule service.
A $.02 washer on a battery terminal.
3 squirts of WD-40 on my horn mount bolts to get rid of some dry squeak.
That's it. It's almost too good to be true until you look at the price tag.
28 years here, mostly on big bore Kawasakis - My '06 FXDBI is my second Harley and I must say I'm impressed with the reliabilty. I'll have 13,000 miles on mine by the end of July (we can't ride year 'round in Iowa) and it has been stone reliable. I change the fluids and adjust per the manual requirements. One more thing: My bikes don't get much love - I have 4 miles of gravel to and from the pavement. It's a daily rider when weather permits and runs like a cat with it's tail on fire!
most of the comments on here are due to upgrades not failures ... as for the 6-speed it had some teething problems ... no different than any other major change on any product ... a good rule of thumb is never buy the first of a major version change of anything ... engines, transmission or software !
I drove off ona 2007 FXD on May 2, 2007. Had no mods except forward controls, Sundowner seat, sissy bar, bags, and compact windshield.I've logged 2,500 miles to date and it runs like a top - not a whisper of a problem. Most of my riding is short trips around town. The longest have been two hour rides. It is a real quality ride and I already hate the thought of winter!!
you got to understand that on any thing or any machine you change or try something new . you are going to have a few bugs in it .if you are looking at a dyna then you are looking at a machine that has 36 years under its belt . and thru them years there has been alot of things changed.but this is a machine you can be proud of ask any body who owns one . harley has made a boat load of money by selling this bike .it comes with a warranty.for the few flaws it may have .
I have a 05 Superglide that was delivered in Nov. of 04. I think the MOCO had this design down real well. I have never had a seconds worth of trouble with it. When they changed the frame and all the other stuff for 06 they rushed to market with it, to use the customers for their R&D. I'm basing my opinion on the fact that I read very little on this forum about people having trouble with bikes that are 05 and earlier.
My '06 StreetBob is very solid. I've had a few nitpicky things along the way but I've had far worse problems on new cars I've purchased in the past. I think that some problems are amplified on the forum....makes them seem like a much more common problem but it's likely just a few bikes with the problem rather than the 10's of thousands that are out there.
