Default Setting up for long miles

Looking for some recommendations

So, work-life is changing and i will shortly start having a long trip two to four times a month on the bike. Im looking to setup my dyna for this long distance travel (457 miles each way in one day to be exact)

I've ridden the bike up here (from southern california to san francisco) a few times, its a long trip but do-able every-once in a while

Now that things are changing, and i wont be living up here during the week, ill need to commute up here to/from work to a hotel, and then back home

I have a 2014 Fat Bob with relatively low miles (18k, had 13k when i started this job in June) Let me preface with the plan is to upgrade to a touring level bike, either a Street Glide or a Road Glide, but i have some financial obligations right now that prevents that from happening for a year or two

So in the meantime, i have to make due with what i have. Currently i only do the long trip maybe once every other month, and its do-able. However ill be changing to a much more frequent trip in January.

I need to setup the bike to make the long trips that much more comfortable

I have bought the sundowner solo seat and it is very comfortable, my only complaint is that i slide back off of it pretty easily (probably my dress slacks for work) I am considering a driver backrest.

I have a national cycle windshield, it helps trememdously with wind blast, but doesnt offer much wind protection at all.

what other things should i consider? I will need to have storage on the bike to fit enough clothes for a week long trip. I am considering a Tsuyaku Batwing fairing and their bags. Does the batwing really help that much with wind protection? Another thing, with the sundowner i feel like im sitting "on" the bike, not "in" the bike.

I will start using the sundowner for the long trip, but around town i dont like the sliding off feeling, will a backrest help this?

What things would you recommend for the long miles becoming a regular thing. Until i can get my financial stuff handled and just upgrade to a touring level bike

I'm looking at doing touring duty with my Dyna as well. I went with a Saddlemen Explorer LS seat and am looking at the Saddlemen CD3600 sissy bar bag instead of saddle bags as I don't feel the saddle bags offer enough storage, and I haven't found a set that looks decent to boot.

Other than going with a full fairing which I don't want to do on my Dyna I've got a windscreen that does as you say, wind blast isn't an issue but I have quite a bit of air coming between the screen and headlight as well as around, but I don't figure there's much I can do about it.

Pegs is another area I was looking into switching out. I thought floor boards rather my forward controls, or just a better peg that won't let my boots slip off. This would be an area for consideration for you as well, just different foot locations to change to/from.

Looking forward to other responses as well.

yeah i guess what im trying to ask is how much wiind protection the batwing really offers. If its a huge difference over the windshield ill probably order it

For what it's worth, I just did about 5k miles touring the West over the past month and a half. I rode a Dyna equipped with a Dead Center Cycles fairing. It make a phenomenal difference. If you're shopping for fairings I would give them a look. Since returning home I've been riding without the fairing I a notice a major difference. I also have knuckle-dusters that did a good job of keeping dawn and dusk bugs off my gloves.
