I think the only way to get a "no $hit" pricetag would be to link up with whomever runs the MSF courses at Yokusuka. They'll be civilians who are most likely to be tied in to the area happenings, shops, and local connections. If you can get on ESAMS to sign up for riding courses (assuming that you are Navy since you are headed to Yokusuka) there will be points of contact for you on that website. In the meantime, I'll see what I can dig up for you.
That's the Yokusuka Traffic Safety Office web page. MSF training & POC is at the bottom of the page. The teams over here that run the MSF programs are great.

This is a great idea. I'll log into ESAMS today to get some contact info over there. Thanks.
Do they force y'all to convert your bikes to Japanese-spec if you bring your bike? That's just nuts. In Germany, you just had to have working turn signals & no obnoxious pipes & they issued you a wonky-sized license plate & done.

Hence why I'm itching to go back to Stuttgart for another tour.
Im interested in a follow up. Ive been working with my branch manager and trying to get Japan. If I get it Id want to take my Dyna. How was the process? How strict are emissions? Whats all this I hear about changing the headlight and speedometer?
The costs would have been steep, and in the end, wasn't worth it. I left the bike home with my dad to care for it. I'll be reunited with her this week in fact, and taking her with us to Belgium for the next few years. If you choose to go this route, just be ready to shell out up to 5-6k in modifications and emissions testing. Good luck to you.
