You're really lucky ...I mean REALLY LUCKY for catching it at this point in time

I'm betting that what first put this current scenario into motion ... Well, that Pulley looks to be Powder Coated which means it was Removed and Replaced by "Someone" ... and with all those potential pitfalls

Make sense. I assume the duplicate threads were an error, since they both open with the exact same post. Something glitchy probably happened when the OP clicked the submit button.

The clanking could be the primary chain slapping up against the primary case, the 2003 has a manual adjustment on the pri. chain tensioner. Find an owners manual for this bike and perform a 10K inspection. I don't know your riding style, so I don't know when you down shift or wait till the last second to pull in the clutch. So that being said if you are waiting, it could be the engine lugging/braking during the stop. Find an owners manual it will really help you out.

Be forewarned: only use NEW bolts when torqing to the proper spec. I always do it in 3 or 4 passes, with threadlock. Use a "star" pattern like you'd use on a automotive wheel.
copy that will do. Thanks!

It’s an 03 and you said it had been sitting so you really need to go through the whole bike starting with the fluids including fork and brake fluid! Then move on to wear items like brakes, tires , etc.

next would be replacing the cam chain tensioner, if not done ...do them!
Ok it has 29,000. Bike is mostly stock except for the powder coated wheels, which was done by previous owner... when I bought the bike it wouldn’t idle, so I dropped the carb and cleaned it. She started right up... planing on slapping a Mikuni on there soon.... tomorrow I’m doing a full service. Primary tensioner, oil and gaskets, plus adjusting clutch... oil and filter... tranny oil... breaks and fluid... fork lube... and replacing pulley bults... going to do tires soon just low on budget... anything else I should check??? Oh also checked engine mounts...

Make sure the mating surfaces between the drive pulley and the wheel are free of any power coating or it'll never seat right and the bolts will come loose again.

Are you saying you're replacing a Keihin carb with a Mikuni? I'm not familiar with the specifics of the carbs used on Harleys, but every where else the trend seems to be in the opposite direction. The Keihins are the hot setup and the Mikunis are the ones everyone is replacing.

I wouldn’t switch carbs, the stock keihens are very good once you rejet and dial them in. I use to run the yost power tube on my 98...worked really well...43 mpg and tons of roll on power.

Copy, I’ll check it out. That’s weird I’ve heard a lot of great things about mikunis. I research some more...

Default Front fork oil bleeder

Was going to change oil in my forks... honestly can’t find and great or consistent info on the fxdxt and the manual is vague. Anyways some of the ways I’ve seen are beyond my skills, although I do have a screw near the bottom of the forks. If not I’ll have a shop do it when I get a tire change. What you think??
