Default 12 inch mini Apes

Anyone know if 12" mini apes would work on my 07 FXD without changing cables?

I'm only asking because a buddy gave mesome 12 " bars and I would like to try them out before going bigger, which I definitely know means longer cables and wiring extensions. I'm prety sure I will have to at least bend the brake line for now, but what about the other cables?

Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Jay. I have not installed Trotter's bars yet. I started the install by first changing out the clutch cable. I snapped the ferrule which threads in the side tranny cover and had to put the original cable back on.

I am going togo withstainless cables and lines before I re-attempt the install. Sorry I can't offer you any insight....yet.

I installed the stock bob bars on my SG and I could have used all the cables but they would have been tight.... You can bend the brake line to make it work but if you want a nice clean look get yourself new cables and a brake line!

I would do this....
park the bike under a rafter, remove the old bars from their risers and suspend them from the rafter with wire or rope or whatever. Then mock up the apes into the risers and this way you'll get a better view and dimension of how everything will fit, including the stress on the cables and wires.Sit on the bike and try to get a feel for the apes. If it's going to be a tight fit, then just do it the right way and replace the cables and extend the wires. The worst thing to do is try to justify to yourself "well, if not too much stress goes on these wires and cables I should be okay"......
I know you may be uncertain of how the apes will feel and it's a big job to do all that re-wiring and cabling for nothing if you dont' like them, but there is really no other way except.........go rent a SB or ride a buddy's bike with the apes and get a "real feel" for them.
I hope this was of some help, but unfortunately to do it the right way, you have to go all the way with it.......
I've changed out many-a-bars in my time and it's more time consuming than anything else.....but oh so worth it

I think you should just go ahead and install the 16's. Then you'll be done and have one fine ride there.

I put the stock Street Bob bars on my superglide and had to switch. I think they are 10". I had to change out the clutch, throttleand idle cables, and the brake line, just used stock bob parts. The throttle and idle cables were just way too short. Wiring wasn't a problem, there is enough tucked in the frame that you can pull outto reach the bob bars but not sure about adding another 2".
