First week I owned my first bike, a 1975 Honda 750 four, I was putt-putting back to the house through residential streets. I saw a lady start to back down a driveway, and figured she would slow up because she was staring straight at me. Nope, she kept coming and I panicked and mashed the back brake about ten feet from her rear fender when she cleared her driveway. Down I went. The woman was more freaked out than I was, since I was a still indestructible teenager. She swore she never saw me.
Two huge lessons that day. One, never assume a car sees you, watch what the vehicle does, not what you assume it will do. Second, don't mash the back brake, lol.
