This needs more research. Aftermarket pipes may be loud, but not "Altered". I've got Bassani RR on my victory, it has a baffle in it, but it still sets off car alarms.
Define "excessively loud". They CA lawmakers screwed up by not stating a decibel level at "X" feet, so how is it enforceable? You don't think they will enforce it on the cars with tin can mufflers do you?
95db. Cops can carry decibel meters to check, but I have yet to hear of anyone ever being pulled over for loud pipes.
Damn, I just ordered some slipons from Fuel Moto for my M8. Geez.
I know the M8s are not loud motors, especially at cruise, but I wonder if they could still fine you for aftermarket exhaust.
The modified exhaust laws are nothing new. I used to get pulled over on my rd400 in the eighties for modified exhaust. The only change in the law is you can't get it signed off as a fix it ticket..... cops are too busy to pull over for this stuff nowadays....... Now… if you get pulled for speeding or something.....they may tack it on.
