Default '05 FXDWG Handlebar Install Issue!

Hey everyone, posted this on the electrical forum as well so mods if that's against site rules please feel free to delete.

Hoping to get some advice here as a friend and I are stuck in the middle of a handlebar install on his '05 FXDWG.

Thus far we've transferred all the hand control components onto the new bars and installed the bars. The issue we're having is as we were disconnecting the electrical wiring initially my friend pulled a little too hard on the cabling to get it out of the frame and it disconnected the turn signal and control module plugs from within the backbone of the frame. In other words, the male plug ends are out of the bike but the female plug ends are sitting about 6" from the neck of the frame outside of our reach. We tried using all kinds of McGuyver methods to try and fish the female ends out but there seems to be zero slack to pull them through.

After researching online it seems the '05 FXDWG models do not give you access to the electrical connections from under the gas tank like later models. Is there any way to gain some additional slack from the rear to essentially push the female plugs forward? If so how involved is that work? Will we need to teardown the rear of the bike to be able to push the slack forward?

Any advise is greatly appreciated. My friend is considering calling a local mechanic to finish the job tomorrow but he's asking $120/hour and we want to consider all options before going that route.
