You can easily do it by bumping the starter. The base of the cam is not a finite point, rather a section with "dwell". It's not as precise as you seem to be thinking

Understood. Nonetheless, I do not want to take a shotgun approach and hope that it lands on the wright part of cam rotation as this will have to be done several times (both cylinders, assembly & diasassembly.
As I said, it's easy to find the right spot.... you don't need to be exact

Could you get a LARGE set of channel locks, or maybe a c clamp on your transmission pulley? Maybe put an old rag or something on it to protect it, but if you get a good bite on it I cant imagine youd hurt anything.

Pulled the plugs, got the bike in 6th gear, grabbed both the top & bottom belt, put tension on the top, but pulled on the bottom (the way the belt would normally spin), and the engine turned over w/o much difficulty.
