Default Primary leak

Getting ready to tear down my primary to replace inner primary seals and the trans oil seal. Any tips, tricks, or thoughts out there to help me along the way? It should be fairly straight forward, but there's a ton of experience on the forum! Thanks in advance.

Electric impact wrench for the comp & clutch hub nut. Right hand threads on the comp sprocket and left hand threads on the clutch hub. I have used a piece of 2X4 cut in the shape of a wedge to bind up the primary chain at the comp & clutch gears when torquing on the nuts.

If you've ever thought about doing a pulley swap, now's the time.

Also a good time to re-evaluate belt condition. Unusual wear, cracks, etc; if you even think it needs to be changed, this is a great time to do it.

Further to that, pull the clutch and pulley and inspect anyway. Splines on my pulley disintegrated around the 35K mark, but would never have known had I not pulled it when I swapped out rear pulley and belt.

OP doesn't have the auto-adjuster, so most likely will not be an issue. The fractured splines on the inner side of the clutch hub, are more prevalent / associated with having the auto-adjuster. I tried a Hayden for a few thousand miles, but didn't like it. Have a Baker in there now... just fine.

Since you are in there anyway...you might as well replace all the seals.

On the inner primary cover:

Primary bearing oil seal (item 13)
Starter jackshaft oil seal (item 14)

On the transmission:

Shifter shaft oil seal (item 19)

Quad seal (item 15)
Big oil seal (item 17)
Pulley spacer (item 23)

Mainshaft- Main Drive Gear oil seal (item 4), this seal is commonly overlooked, it goes into the end of the main drive gear and seals the space between the mainshaft and the main drive gear, very important to replace this seal (see pic).

Use a jam bar and not a wedge to loosen and torque the clutch and crank nuts.

Max Headflow, do you think the wedge blocks put too much stress on the primary chain? Just wondering. I've tried the jam bars. You need different ones for the FLH and the FXST?
