Not so much stress on the chain but stress on the and mainshaft. HD seemed stop recommending using the wedge around 2003 but some later manuals might still have it. Yes there is a difference in length baggers and other BTs, also length changed between 5 speeds and 6s. Piece of 1/4 x 1 x what ever length of 6061 will get you what you need.
