Team,
I have a friend who rides an 89 FXR-CHP (The California Highway Patrol limited edition). His shifter extends through the primary cover...and this is where the trouble begins. The thing constantly leaks there. He says he has actually ran completely out of primary case oil on 2 occasions. Anybody got any info/suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks

P.S. He has already tried changing the seal twice with an OE seal...and it doesn't appear to be worth a $hit.
He's done that twice. The OE seal doesn't do the job. I was hoping to find someone who has had a similar experience and found an after market fix, or might have some wisdom to share. Anybody out there?

Thats not really a common problem. Has he checked the primary vent? It vents thru a flat side of the clutch pushrod into the trans, then thru the trans vent. Just an idea.
Maybe the shaft itself is wore to the point that it just won`t seal anymore.I would think there may be a bushing involved in there as well.
I have to agree. As I had a trans leak, replaced the seal and it still leaked. Not as much but still some leakage. Took it apart one more time as I was replacing the clutch and decided to replace the seal again and this time I replaced the main drive sprocket spacer with Jims and Jims new trans main drive sproket locking nut. Now my spacer didn't look that bad but with the new spacer, it stopped leaking. So I am thinking too, may have to replace shaft or bushing.
