Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
Just wondering...
I had an oil leak om my primary of my 98 Road King, and I wanted to replace the gasket.
I removed the cover and a small rivet (about 0.2 inches / 5mm) fell out.
I could not find any other rivets when I inspected the primary....
I know the previous owner replaced the clutch plates with barnett ones... but I wonder where the small rivet came from.
I included a pic of it...
Strictly speaking it isn't a rivet, but I don't recall ever coming across such a thing in my primary. Such things don't normally hunt alone, so I'm inclined to suggest you take another look, to see if there is any evidence of others - either on the loose or where they belong!
May be one of the rivets that hold the ring gear to the clutch basket?
Looks very likely, but the photos I've found so far all show rivets (or whatever they are!) with flat heads, not domed ones. The answer is out there somewhere.....
