I have an 01 electra glide and i've noticed some oil at the bottom of my primary case. It's been leaking for time now but not enough to leave any on the floor. I assumed it was leaking from the primary case so i changed the gasket. Went for a ride and oil in the same place? Looked under the bike from the other side and saw the oil was actually coming from somewhere under the motor on the primary side. I know that it is not tranny fluid as i use red line shock proof and it is easy to tell the difference. So what where could it be leaking from and how costly to fix?
Same problem with my 01, went through two primary gaskets and a clutch cable before I figured out it was a clogged trans vent hose. When the bike would heat up it would push oil out of the clutch cable at the adjuster which would then run back down the cable and end up on the frame, collecting on the primary. Look for a "J" shaped hose behind the primary and under the rear exhaust, pull it off and blow it out with a little air...

look at the rubber grommet on the front of the primary, wires from the stator to the volt regulator. common problem. most can be cleaned and sealed with a small dab of silicone. primary fluid gets nasty dirty in no time, so looking for a "color" probably wont work. shifter shaft seal is my second guess. grommet or shifter seal require removal of outer and inner primary. if you opt to do one....DO BOTH....steve
My 2000 Ultra developed a leak that would only occur after the bike was really warmed up and it would only leak a drop or so even when parked for a long time.
I wiped the bottom of the bike several times looking for it with no luck.
I had it to the dealer twice and it still leaked.
On the third attempt they finally found the leak and fixed it.
They said it was an engine oil passage "plug" that is located between the engine and tranny and all they did was to put some sealant on the plug an re-tighten.
Too bad they couldn't have checked that on the first trip.
My 01 developed a leak at the shifter shaft seal once then the exhaust bracket under the trans. Pulled primary off at 40000 and replaced all the seals and inner primary bearing, chain, and adjusting shoe and stopped first leak. Second one i just had to tighten the bolts on the bracket (kind of a pain to get to) and stopped the second leak.
My 04 Road Glide had a similar leak at about 35,000 miles. Looked like primary
but turned out to be the trans shaft seal. Fortunately it was still under warranty
at the time. Good luck

Had similar issue with my 99 Ultra. Read some other threads about cleaning it down real good to remove the oil and then spray with white foot powder and take it for a ride. You'll see where the leak is coming from. Mine turned out to be the inner primary seal. Took it apart and replaced all the seals and bearing while I was already that far and leak solved.
