Default Primary oil drip

Every time I come back from a ride I notice 2 small oil spots about the size of a dime under the primary and back around the rear pipe cover the following morning.I believe it’s not engine oil, I use the syn3 in motor and HD tranny and primary in the other 2 holes. I’ve got warranty but just wondering how dealer will be able to tell without changing a lot of gaskets and seals?

this is my first post keep in mind. a leak from your primary could only really be 2 gaskets to my knowledge. outer primary gasket, and inner primary. follow the drip up and it will tell you.

First check the drain plug and outer primary gasket to get the easy stuff out of the way. The most common place for it to be leaking from after that is the inner primary seal where the trans shaft comes through the back of the inner primary. It could also be the shift shaft seal on the trans or the trans seal behind the front pulley. The best way to find it is to lay on the floor with a mirror and flashlight and really inspect the area. It helps if you have a jack to raise it up

Oil drips can be a real bitch to find - oil travels and can fool even the best - I had a leak on my 04 that drove me nuts until I found where the clutch cable rubbed a hole in it... Now of course yours does not have that cable - if possible - CLEAN the engine than run or ride easy and try to get the oil to leak then follow back... good luck, is it under warranty?

You get a small bright light and a wand mirror and do some squinting, anyone with half a clue will track a leak before just ripping into ****. At face value mine looked like an inner primary or trans seal leaking, using said procedure I tracked it to a bubbling head gasket. Wipe it down particularly underneath, ride it and get busy looking.

Clean bike up, spray area of issue with Athletes Foot Spray powder.

May need to fire the bike or ride a little after applying, then let sit, it should help you find where the leak is at.

yep still got extended warranty.........thanks for the help guys. I will jack it up after a ride and see if anything drips out. I know the oil was running back along the pipe so that could indicate outer primary gasket.

Before you do anything check the torque on the outer primary. If the outer primary gasket is leaking you should be able to run your hand along the seam and feel where it’s seeping out.
