It will do it every time I’m in first gear. If I very gently twist the the throttle, just enough to get it moving from a dead stop and then shift to second, I can keep it from doing it. But any attempt at quick acceleration in first gear will cause it to happen.
Talked to the shop. He can’t get to it until next week. But he seems to think it’s not a transmission problem at all. He said it sounds like a programming issue with the EFI. Guess we’ll find out.
Get a helper to help steady the bike in a vertical position, remove the derby cover and check for the correct level of the fluid in the primary case. The level should be just to the bottom of the clutch pak (the big round thing behind the derby cover) . there are warnings and cautions about too much or too little fluid in the owners manuals. You need to demonstrate to the shop what it is doing. I think the shop is after your wallet by mentioning a tune.
The bike has a wet clutch. It will likely jump a little when first going into gear. Make sure the oil level in the primary is correct. You can try holding the clutch in for a few seconds before kicking into gear but the "jolt" has never bothered me.
