Hello I have a 1996 wide glide and yesturday when I was ridding I noticed when I was downshifting from 2nt to 1st it went too natural. Ok my mistake then it happened again. Now 10 miles later on my way home the clutch engagement spot has changed from half way out to almost all the in. (In twords handlebars) now I'm not sure if this is my clutch on the way out or if it just needs to be adjusted inside I tried adjusting the cable nothing changed. Thanks guys
How many miles on it? Well, it's probably either wearing out or needs adjustment. Adjusting the clutch alone won't do it. You need to do a full adjustment on the clutch, of which the last step is to adjust the cable. Follow the procedure in the service manual. If you don't have one watch this:Clutch Adjustment - YouTube
There are lots more on line.
If that doesn't work you need to take the clutch out and check the plates for wear and thickness.
I dont think it's the slave for the simple fact if it's going I shouldn't be able to in gauge it . Now if I change the slack the gauge spot changes. So I'm hopping just a adjustment to the clutch will 2ork better will get back to u guys.
You are going to have to pull the clutch pack. I'd bet ya that the spring plate in the middle of the clutch pack has come apart just like Dan89FLSTC said
Same thing happened on my '97 flht. The brass rivets come out of it and lay in the bottom of the clutch basket jamming things up.

That would mean I should replace the hole clutch and be done with it huh? I pulled it apart and adjusted it with the nut and then adjusted the cable it worked okay back to normal shifted a few times then went back to the way it was thinking I should change the hole clutch out seeing how I have 27k on it anyways. What u guys think.
I'm going to be pulling the clutch tomarow on some free time if something is rong ima replace it all I found a burett high performance exstra plate online . That everyone swears about. Anyone use this . ?
Sounds to me like the locking nut on the adjuster screw, isn't. The adjusting screw should move without the locking nut, unlocked.
This is on the basket itself. Remove derby cover for access.
