Speedometer Problem

Speedometer Problem
I have a 01 FXDL speedometer works very little, the speedometer sensor has a three leads to it red for speed sensor power, black for ground and a white for vehicle speed signal. With the key on and the sensor unplugged under the seat the red power lead from the speedometer has no power, so is this a problem with the speedometer or the wire between speedometer and sensor? Is there some other way to trouble shoot this? terry

Pulled it cleaned it, replaced it no change. Did find out the voltage regulator is putting 18 volts to battery!! Should have checked that first. Have to fix that and see what happens. terry

If you're pumping 18v to a healthy battery, it won't be healthy for very long. Now, if it's dying, then it's already gone. But yeah, check your regulator because 18v = it ain't regulatin'!

Did not run it long like that, have a regulator coming. terry
