New LED Taillight issues
I'm having issues with my new LED taillight. It's an "OVOTOR Smoked Harley LED Tail Light Lay Down Tail Lamp with Braking Turn Signal" ( ) that I got off Amazon. I really like it for 2 reasons. The smoked color and the low-profile.
I don't use the integrated turn signal as I have new Rouge Riders Industries SigZ front ( ) and rear ( ) LED turn signal. Even the seller of the taillight said that I do not have to use the two wires to hook up the integrated turn signal feature.
The problem is that the moment I hook up the "running light" wire (there are only 3 wires to use if not using the integrated turn signals) it makes my rear LED turn/running/brake lights up fully illuminate as if the brake lever/pedal is being pressed.
This does not happen when I put the stock HD halogen light bulb taillight on. Only when I try to install the new LED taillight. I worked with the company selling it messaging back and forth with pics and videos and they could not help me with a fix.
They had me remove my Badlands Turn Signal Load Equalizer ( ) and that did not resolve the issue. They also had me switch the 3 wires around with no success. They even had me hook up the running light wire to in front of the rear wire harness to an ACC+ wire. This too did not fix the issue.
I do have an HD run/turn/brake module (had it installed the day I picked up the bike back in 2006) but I even removed that. Of course, the issue went away then, but I am not going to forgo my R/T/B feature just to have an LED taillight. Especially with the new rear LED turn signal lights I purchased.
The last thing they wanted me to do but I didn't was to put the original HD bulbs in both the front and rear turn signals. I did not do that as once again, do not want to lose my new LED turn signals for a LED taillight. But I think I am going to give it a try tomorrow just to see if the problem exists. This should confirm that the problem is with the new taillight and not from anything else on my bike.
I did return the original taillight I bought from them last week and had Amazon send me a replacement. I was hoping it was just a bad circuit board but even with the new second taillight, the same problem exists. Once I hook in the running light wire, my rear R/T/B lights fully illuminate as if the brake was being pressed and remains that way.
I did install a new rear brake line pressure switch as the brake light would not function with the brake foot pedal, but I don't believe that would have anything to do with this issue. If it did, the issue would remain even with the old original HD halogen taillight installed.
Because I couldn't find the problem, I went ahead and installed a new Daymaker type headlamp, a 7 inch light bar, and an 18 piece LED accent lighting kit. Even after these installs, the problem exists only when I try and to install the running light wire for the new LED taillight. I even cleaned the HD circuit board where all the lights plug into located under the taillight with no success to the problem.
My only other options are to just keep the original HD halogen taillight, try a different type of LED taillight from another manufacturer/seller, or see if I can replace the HD halogen bulb with an LED type bulb (if they even make them).
If anyone has run into the same problem as me, or have any ideas that I may not have thought of, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.
Thank you,
- Stryker
