Default Front End Wobble

For the last few weeks my bike has been making kind of a low clattering sound when I stop. The sound seems to be coming from the front end but I can't seem to find anything that appears loose, and lately it seems like it's developing a 'wobble' in the front end where the steering seems to be getting progressivly more sloppy and the front end wants to tip to one side or the other. Also maybe it's just my imagination or I'm paying too much attention to the front end because of the above issue, but I've been noticing the last few rides that the front tire is really tracking every groove in the road to the point where it feels like I'm riding on slippery pavement....any ideas?

It's a 2006 FXDCI with about 4300 miles

I'm going to make an appointment with the dealer to have it inespected, but is there anything obvious to check?

Check your front fuel tank bolt (the noise)............ May not seem loose, but tighten it anyway.
Have the dealer check for the wobble, just to be safe.

I'll check that tank bolt. I've also heard other say that it could be the rubber jiffy stand 'bumper' on the frame, but mine looks like it's where it should be. I have also checked the tire pressure which looks dead on. I was thinking maybe I could tighten the stearing neck nut, but I can't figure out how to get the cap off the top.

might want to check or have someone check the fall out in your front end. might be mis-aligned, espically if it is favoring one side. not hard to do if you have a manual and a little time. jackyl

The stem cap comes off just by unscrewing it. But if you have a small screw driver, you cantighten the stem nut from under the upper tree. It will save you a little time.

I have an appointment for the 5000 mile service on Aug 3rd and they are going to check the front end as well. I will ask them to take it for a test ride so they can see what I'm talking about...like I said I don't know if it's getting worse or if I'm just getting sensitive to the issue...you know, you make a couple of turns and the bike feels 'tippy' then you're much more concious of it in every turn...I don't know, I just don't have a lot of confidence in the front end right now and it makes riding it a little freaky.
