Hi all , well, I tried starting my 2006 fxd and nothing. So I pulled out the ignition switch and checked the 3 wires that are attached to the back of it. I have power to the center (red) only when I disconnect the red/black wire. The minute I connect the red/black , I have no power anywhere. When I connect the accessory wire , I get the gauge light to come on. So I ran a continuity test from the red/black to ground and it shows it to be grounded. I unplugged every connector to the ha dlebars and headlight and I was still grounded. I then ran a test from the starter relay, where the red/black wire enters to ground and it is grounded. Any other suggestions??? Thanks. The red/black powers the run , start , ignition etc. I pretty much unplugged every connector to included the injectors to try and eliminate different circuits. Ould a bad starter relay cause this grounding ? Thanks
I have to ask, why did you start at the ignition switch ? If my bike was dead my first thought would be battery, followed by battery cables and charging system....
The battery cables coming loose is a known issue....
There is power to the ignition, but not when the ignition wire is connected.
That suggests two possible causes:
1) the battery can't handle the load.
2) there is a high resistance connection between the battery and the ignition switch.
What is the voltage at the battery terminals, ignition off and ignition on?
