I'm interested in Supertrap's internal disc series slip on mufflers for my 07 st bob, any1 tried them before? Are they similar to V&H slip ons, no reprograming needed if no Air cleaner kit?
G'day,
The supertrapps are excellent, how many can be adjusted in just a few minutes from stock sound to straight through and ANYWHERE in between, so few on the forum seem to have them, and I never know why. They are a little bigger (diameter), than some and therefore ground clearance could be a prob for you, but you get the perfect (for you) volume and if you keep it quiet, (try 8 discs and a closed end cap), and no A/C mods I'm sure the mixture would be OK. as that is quiet restrictive (but very mellow) soundwise. Then just swap to the race end cap for a "cruise" in the country. They bolt straight on.
I had a set of Supertrapp slip-ons on a Sportster. I loved them. In my opinion, the very best balance between quiet sound and great performance. They are not loud pipes, but you can make them loud if you want to.
I spent some time on the phone with a tech guy from Supertrapp. Real friendly, easy to talk to.
He told me that the EFI system on the '07 96-inch motor is waaay more sophisticated than even the '06's.
He said that they tested it every which way, and the computer always compensated - it never ran too lean. So, yeah, you can put them on without any downloads or changes to the EFI.
I haven't bought them yet, but I'm about to. I think the reason more people don't have them is that they're kind of expensive.
I put them on my 06 Superglide last week. Just what I was looking for--power increase and a deeper mellow sound but not loud. They are maybe 4" shorter and a little fatter than the stock mufflers but look great.
They were very easy to install. I used 16 disks which is what they say tested out the best. They ship with 18 disks with 14 being the stock muffler setting. You can change the internal setup in about 10 minutes without taking the mufflers off.
If you want loud, you can put in more disks or order a special open end-cap but you may have to remap your fuel system.
