It's all in the shape. My Redtail Leather seat was as thin (or thinner) as the Ends Cuio but was super comfortable. I only changed because it was heavy and the shape ended up being a bit to too classic for where my build was headed.

I actually really like the mounting Ends Cuio came up with. It's lower than mine, but I'm not in love with the rear fastener. I think I may try a variation of it for my next seat.
I agree. That rear tab kinda sticks straight up, instead of having that subtle curve like yours does. Do you think drilling into that area below the tank mount an attaching it there would enable the seat to mount lower/flatter on the frame?

Which seat/mount are you talking about? The Ends Cuio set is right on the frame now... Mine is bolted on from the sides, with the rear being as low as I can go and still get the bolts in and out. The front is kicked up a bit for comfort. That's just where it felt right. Fore/aft, mine is also where it felt right.

Changing mine, I want to try for a more gapless installation. Haven't really worked on mounting yet. I want to make it from carbon fiber and include a third brake light in the rear. Probably have a small cowl on the rear of the seat and a bit of a skirt around the rest. Maybe some kind of key & slot arrangement to hold it in place. The cavity in the frame under the seat is PACKED full of electronics on mine so I can't really get to hidden fasteners from underneath.

People often make the mistake of equating "thick, cushy, soft padding" with "comfortable." Not just with motorcycle seats, but everything. Car seats, chairs, pillows, mattresses... As Chris said, it's all about having a shape that fits well and makes contact in the right places to provide anatomical support. If done really well (and custom fitted), this can be accomplished without any padding whatsoever. Look at racing seats... Back in '96 (I think) Buddy Lazier broke his back in a crash at Phoenix, and was racing at the 500 a couple of months later. He said his properly formed seating shell was the most comfortable, pain-free place he could sit. I have an older Corbin Gunfighter on my Speed Triple, and it's hard as a rock (and super thin - not at all like their Harley Gunfighters). And super comfortable.

I have had the same response on my seat. The pan actually gives and has springs and is much more comfortable than the stock bob seat.

The same thing happens with bicycle seats...the fatter more cushioned seats look comfy but the most comfortable looks like a torture device.

F86 says it very acuratly "it's all about having a shape that fits well and makes contact in the right places to provide anatomical support."

I was thinking using a standard U-shaped solo seat hinge bolted onto the front part, just
below the tank mount so the front of the seat would lower than instead of bolting it onto the tank tab area. Hope you can see with the pics

I don't see why that wouldn't work, but it put the nose of the seat fairly high unless the pan was pretty long or had an extension of some type. Would move the seat pretty far forward and those flat pans like you pictured may feel like you're sliding off the back. Would just have to try it and see. We're all built different.

Some people find a LePera Barebones to have adequate backstop. I didn't. Almost nobody finds them comfortable. I didn't either. Ha!

Maybe get a super cheap solo pan and play around with placement and angle to see what works for you. Then you can make a more informed decision and possibly sell the test seat with little loss if it won't work. That's basically what I did. I'm on my 5th seat and finally have something pretty close to what I want...but I'm awefully particular about insignificant details.
