Default Screaming eagle pro street tuner

Whats up guys new here. I've got a 2017 low rider s. Running a basani road rage 3. I was thinking about doing the 117 kit. My mechanic is telling me to just do a wood tw222 cam and change the head gasket to a .030 and it will run like a madman. I have the screaming eagle pro street tuner (black one) but he's telling me I need the old orange screaming eagle tuner Any thoughts guys?

Hopefully someone more educated on tuning will chime in but here goes... I installed a 117 on my lrs as well and I would never ever ever use the screaming eagle tuner for either of those upgrades. You want a power vision. The se tuner limits you to harleys generic 117 tune which is tuned to meet epa standards. This means it will run lean af, and hot af. You most likely won’t get as much hp/tq with their tune either. With power vision you can auto tune or have it dyno tuned. The power vision is good for any upgrade from an air cleaner to a big bore. You also can control a lot more with power vision as far as fuel/spark/etc.

other than that that I would definitely suggest the 117 kit. I don’t think cams alone will give you nearly as much power without bumping compression up a lot and doing head work. You can save a lot of money installing the 117 yourself. If you search the threads I did a write up on the install step by step. Don’t remember the exact title but search “my se117 install” and it will come up.

It’s gonna run hot regardless, but I’m in agreement on the power vision. Get one and be done with it. When I bought my bike it had an FP3 and it ran ok. When I did the 117 I tried to use the FP3 but it just wasn’t working out. I got a power vision with a fuel moto tune that I’ve since auto tuned 3 times and it runs fantastic.

The pipe was on the bike when I bought it with the tuner. Sounds like I will be going with a new tuner tuner. Did u do head work? What kind of numbers did you get on the dyno?

i did not do head work. I only did the upgrades included in the screaming eagle 117 kit and a D&D fat cat. I requested a “conservative” tune and got somewhere around 105 hp and 125 tq (don’t remember the exact numbers). I didn’t want to push it too far and jeopardize reliability but if you bump your compression up more than what the kit does, you can make more power. The cams are se259 cams which are meant for higher compression anyway.

Whatever you do dont raise the rev limiter from 5500-6500. The kit advertises that you’re able to buy in my (and many others) opinion thatis not a good idea.

Decent #s I'm going back and forth on doing the heads. Everyone says the stock se heads are fine but I want to run like 10.5 to 1 so I'll probably just do it. Thanks for the input

id have to suggest leaving the heads alone as well. So far everyone I’ve met who’s had a catastrophic failure modified their heads. You can always swap pistons to bump the compression up but you’ll still wanna do cams.
I think you should consider the big bore kit personally. Once you get the heads removed, the cylinders slide off so it’s not much more work. Either way you’d wanna upgrade to the 58mm throttle body and 5.3 injectors.

I'm definitely going with a 117 ki . My old bike was an 04 88 to 95 kit I had S&S 585 cams Kb pistons flat top pistons and high compression heads 10.5 to 1 compression dyno was 121hp and 128 lbs torque. That's where I want to get my bike . I put 40,000 miles on that motor build without an issue just routine maintenance

If you run 10.5:1 with the 117 you should definitely meet or exceed those numbers. I believe the pistons in the kit are 9.9:1. Let us know how it works out. I’m especially interested because I was thinking of upping my compression at some point as well.
