Just put a 48 in my 08 fxdc with a fuel moto map. Truth be told its not a huge difference in the first 3 gears. I got it to get rid of that stuck in the muck feeling when passing on the highways and interstates, it does that in spades 👍🏻
That's some good info.... Thx.
If I went to either a 68 rear on the stock belt, or a 70 tooth with a 133 belt, and the 48h, the bottom end would be a bit better than what you experienced and 6th would probably be better around 60 too. I'm not looking for a rocket, but this 96 leaves me wondering why it isn't a little stronger. Even with EPA bullshit.

Im not sure there is a cam made that makes 6th gear usable at 60mph. I dont even consider it til Im north of 70, all that said I think youd be real happy how that 48 wakes up the 96 with a quality tune.
Yea... I'm still thinking 48h. 6th gear being usable at 60 is possible I think with a 32/70 but if you have to move out, it's probably still gonna be at least a 5rh drop. More what I meant was at light load you could slip into 6th around 60.
I really think part of the issue is that 07 and up bikes are geared too tall. I have a 68 on the rear, and it did help 1st and maybe 2nd a touch, but 30/68 or 30/70 would be great. I don't feel like yanking the inner, so the best I can do without yanking the inner is a 32/70 and a 133 belt, but it's still gotta help.....
Don't forget the dyna vibes around 2500 rpms...you go changing the gearing to drop into 6th at 60mph and I bet it puts you right into the vibes range....I'm with the guy that said don't worry about 6th until north of 70...the 48h in my stock compression 103 is amazing...I know that's not your 96 comparison but it's close....I also did Moco cnc heads and I got great numbers...this bike is truly a blast to ride...gimme a sec and I'll post up my Dyno sheet...
The lower numbers are stage 1...heavy breather intake and big radius 2-2 exhaust....the higher numbers I added the heads and the cams...Dyno tuned both times...I did put in forged flat top pistons so it still has stock compression....
I have installed several 30T pulleys in 06+ dynas ; 30/68 is a great combination and uses the stock belt. Best modification for the cost and would be great with the 48 cam in your 96.
I'm probably gonna go with a 48h, unless I hear of a better cam. But I think it'll work out well with a 48h. The 204 would probably be a good fit too, but our local guys have said that it can be finicky tuning sometimes. Ping, I guess

I've also run both cams in a 96 and have the 48's in my 103 now. I liked them both. The 48's come on a bit sooner, which I like. Something to consider about the 204's is they have a nice idle, but make the exhaust much louder compared to the 48's. The 48's have close to stock exhaust note, not so much the 204's.

The woods TW-7H builds higher cylinder pressures at idle also and creates a harder / sharper exhaust note.
