Default Jack "Adapter" to Clear Underslung Oil Cooler

Hi all,

I have an undermounted oil cooler that basically sits between the frame rails under the engine. One of the hoses for the system protrudes just a bit under the "tab" welded to the right side frame rail. I'm looking for some kind of adapter or "pads" that I can fit on top of some jack rails that might add some clearance between the frame rails and jack rails so as to not compress that hose. I've seen the Dyna pads offered by Harley official (Dyna Twin Cam Lift Adapter Kit). Maybe those would work?

Thanks,

Chris

I think a picture of your situation is needed to be able to answer properly...

Yeah, I'd like to see this oil filter hanging down there too?

You could use some pieces of wood on the jack.

I don't think the HD frame blocks will work, as they basically bring the other three lift locations down to the depth of that tab. None of them sit under the tab itself. can't that line just be tucked out of the way while lifting? What sort of jack are you using? The answer may be different for different jacks...

But aside from your actual question... I'm not really understanding the oil cooler setup. Where is the cooler itself? I'm having a hard time picturing a system that doesn't place the cooler in an area of obvious airflow... Or maybe I'm just not understanding something.

I use Hockey Pucks to get the clearance I need for my pipes when lifting my Sporster. Old hockey pucks are great as you can move them to wherever you need them to give you an inch of clearance.

This is a GREAT idea. Pucks are really hard rubber and should work great. Imma try it.

The cooler coils are under the engine. There is a front section and a rear section, connected by hoses. It's an aircraft cooler element technology adapted for the Dyna. Not the most elegant installation/design, and I had to tweak it a bit, but it's not obtrusive and has a good theoretic cooling capability.

That looks a bit like an oilbud cooler. Is that hose I see connecting two elements? If so, I had a friend that fought that same problem for a while. What we ended up doing was to build a "cradle" that he bolted to his HF jack, This allowed him to pick it up by the frame and not hit the cooler. one disadvantage was that the bike had to be rolled up on some blocks to slip the jack under.

I wonder if a jack like the J&S or pit bull would clear that? (or maybe even the HF jack fix??). It's been years since he traded that bike.

Correct!

When I use a jack I roll the bike into a chock/stand, then use the jack to raise the end I need to work on. So stability isn't an issue. I just need to have the ability to jack the bike up without crushing the oil cooler/hose.
