Handlebars, mini-apes?

Handlebars, mini-apes?
I want to replace my handlebars with maybe mini-apes or buckhorns. Is this a big deal? Will I need new, longer cables and stuff/ Any info. is appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah you'll need new cables etc but HD do all the replacements so in theory they should all fit 
Done a couple of these swaps(on 05 bikes),the biggest headache was feeding the wiring through the bars,well by thatI mean the disconnection and reconnection of said loom....it's really a tank off,rear fender out job to gain access to big loop of loom you have to feed back up the top tube of the frame in order to get at the multi-connectors that are siituated just out of reach inside the frame.
There is a sort of square bung in the rear fender that I guess is what the factory would say to remove to get at the loom but to be honest I didn't bother,it's easier and less fiddly to just take the whole lot off.
Of course you could always do what a buddy of mine did,he just cut the wires up by the switch gear and rejoined them,taped them up and stuffed them down the bars.....then had to call recovery when the engine kill button failed,cause......broken joint!!

Thanks, what about getting risers? I really only want about two inches up and back toward me, can risers work on my '07 superglide? seems like the damn speedometer is in the way again!

Not too sure bout the 07 models, regarding Risers, if you go for factory mini-apes then you have to buy factory risers to suit as the bars do not have a narrow(1") knurled section that sits in the risers, not a massive problem but over here in "Rip Off UK" they cost almost as much as the bars! if you go after market I think you'll find most of 'em fit the stock risers as they have a narrower mid-section to suit.

Try a couple of pulled back risers, you probably won't have to change anything under 4'. I have 4 inch pulled backs on mine and the only thing I did was straightend the brake line a bit. But it will stand your speedo straight up though.

I put the bob mini apes on my '07 Superglide. New clutch cable, brake line, throttle and idle cables, and if you were thinking about it go ahead and change out your grips while you're there. There's enough wiring to just pull out but be careful not to pull too hard and unplug one of the connectors in the neck of the frame. See about tech tip with shim in brake lever. Might break the nipple of the switch if you don't.
