Default Fork Rebuild

I called a few dealers near my house since I am just taking the forks in for a rebuild and not the whole bike. I was quoted 4 hours labor if I brought them the bike. 1.5 - 2 hours for a rebuild if I brought the forks.

Does that sound right? I am a decent wrench and got the forks off in about 20 minutes. Getting them back together will take a little longer. Seems a little high to me.

I think if you can R&R the forks you should be able to rebuild them.
It's not that hard, just follow the manual.
The dealer may charge you 2 hrs labor, but it will probably only take
the tech 45 min to 1 hr to do it. Just my thoughts.

The problem was, by the time I buy the fork holder or make one and the seal driver and parts, I was at $200 roughly and I am pressed for time right now. It is a simple job if I already had the tools. Thanks.

You don't need a fork holder, and you can make a seal driver out of a piece of Schedule 40 pipe.

Use the triple tree to hold the fork.
The schedule 40 pipe is only a few dollars.

You need a piece of angle iron and drill 2 holes the width of the caliper bolt holes....use a piece of rubber to pad the angle iron and bolt the fork to the angle....stick the angle in a vice....forks are so easy to rebuild....you don't even need PVC for a driver....the electrical tape trick works perfectly....

Interesting. However, I think I'll stick to the PVC pipe, after all, I've already invested in the material...
