I like my 05 Super Glide it is pretty zippy for a stock TC 88,sometimes Ill leave hard, I swear it pulls the front end up on the 1-2 shift, maybe not off the ground, but I bet it could...

I know you posted this in the Dyna section, but if you have the dough, I would suggest you take a look at the new Softail Low Rider, especially the S. They handle very well, vibration is very low, and the power of the S, even stock, is impressive.

Just another option.

Considered it. Based on reviews it kills a Dyna in the handling department. I wonder how it compares handling wise to an FXR (outfitted with more modern brakes/suspension upgrades).

Aesthetically it's not my cup of tea.... yet.

Well, having owned an '84 FXSB myself, I know where you are voming from. I also owned a '94 FXR, a 2017 Lowrider that was quickly traded in on the new Softail version, and now own a 1997 FXD.

A well setup FXR is hard to beat. Mine, motor wise, was stock, aside from a TM42, EV27 and homemade 2-1. Suspension dialed in for my size and weight. I did my first 1,000 mile days on that bike. Speeds varied between 80-100. The bike I should have never sold.

The 2017 Lowrider was okay. It was new. Other than the indution module vibrating loose (what the hell??) it was an okay ride. Definitely an improvement over the 2002 Lowrider I got to ride for a bit years before.

The 2018 was a warranty nightmare. Handling was never right on that bike. Motor leaks from everywhere. I chalked that up to just being a lemon, and not really representative of the new line.

I'm back on an Evo. Yep, not the same handling as an FXR. Not the was power as an M8, or even a later TC. But, it will cruise all day long at 80, it's smooth, it's reliable, parts are still easy to get, and cheap. And if I decide to change my exhaust, or intake, or cam, I'm just a few jets, and some fine tuning away.

And it's paid for, and was cheap to buy. And at this point in my life, that's all that matters to me.

That's the nice thing about these days. So many choices and really no right or wrong way. Jusy whatever fulfills your riding needs.

Must be relative.

My 17 DLRS felt like a wet noodle riding it hard. True Tracks front and rear and a steering stabilizer. Big brake kit and I can rip with no issues or worries pushing with the mods.

Power is good stage 2, but a top-end build and cams is coming soon.

What he said.

Ive got loads of power but when I really try to raise hell the bike gets very unstable. Now I’m doubling back to sure up every aspect of the suspension. I would say if you’re going to dump money into one start with suspension, because you’ll end up doing it anyway.

I didnt mention the longer shocks and cartridge setup in frt on mine made a huge difference too ripping.

I’ve had bitubo cartridges sitting in a box since I bought the rears I just haven’t got around to it. Now it definitely needs addressed. I’m waiting on the stock top out spring from HD to get here then I’ll be good to go. Along with a full sputhe system. Hopefully stability returns.

2014-2015 FXDL's had the regular 103" engine.
2016-2017 FXDL's get the 103" HO engine
The difference between the 2 engines is the "HO" engine revs slightly quicker, and has a very slight bit more "oomph."
Dunno if HD did this via fuel/timing curves, or cam, or comp ratio, or exhaust scavenging, of what. They DO ride differently, but only slightly.
Not difficult to mod any of them, but starting 2017MY, HD won't warranty very much if ANY engine mods are done. (HD got stung by EPA in 2017-18, but prior years were grandfathered.)
So, that leaves the 2016, with the "HO" (high output) engine, AND some mods and still keeping a warranty in place.
This really opens a can of worms, but suffice to say, the 2016 is the bike you want.
