School me on the Dyna
Just another option.

Aesthetically it's not my cup of tea.... yet.
A well setup FXR is hard to beat. Mine, motor wise, was stock, aside from a TM42, EV27 and homemade 2-1. Suspension dialed in for my size and weight. I did my first 1,000 mile days on that bike. Speeds varied between 80-100. The bike I should have never sold.
The 2017 Lowrider was okay. It was new. Other than the indution module vibrating loose (what the hell??) it was an okay ride. Definitely an improvement over the 2002 Lowrider I got to ride for a bit years before.
The 2018 was a warranty nightmare. Handling was never right on that bike. Motor leaks from everywhere. I chalked that up to just being a lemon, and not really representative of the new line.
I'm back on an Evo. Yep, not the same handling as an FXR. Not the was power as an M8, or even a later TC. But, it will cruise all day long at 80, it's smooth, it's reliable, parts are still easy to get, and cheap. And if I decide to change my exhaust, or intake, or cam, I'm just a few jets, and some fine tuning away.
And it's paid for, and was cheap to buy. And at this point in my life, that's all that matters to me.
That's the nice thing about these days. So many choices and really no right or wrong way. Jusy whatever fulfills your riding needs.
My 17 DLRS felt like a wet noodle riding it hard. True Tracks front and rear and a steering stabilizer. Big brake kit and I can rip with no issues or worries pushing with the mods.
Power is good stage 2, but a top-end build and cams is coming soon.

Ive got loads of power but when I really try to raise hell the bike gets very unstable. Now Im doubling back to sure up every aspect of the suspension. I would say if youre going to dump money into one start with suspension, because youll end up doing it anyway.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
2016-2017 FXDL's get the 103" HO engine
The difference between the 2 engines is the "HO" engine revs slightly quicker, and has a very slight bit more "oomph."
Dunno if HD did this via fuel/timing curves, or cam, or comp ratio, or exhaust scavenging, of what. They DO ride differently, but only slightly.
Not difficult to mod any of them, but starting 2017MY, HD won't warranty very much if ANY engine mods are done. (HD got stung by EPA in 2017-18, but prior years were grandfathered.)
So, that leaves the 2016, with the "HO" (high output) engine, AND some mods and still keeping a warranty in place.
This really opens a can of worms, but suffice to say, the 2016 is the bike you want.
