Well I installed the V&H straight shot slip on's on my 07 fxdl last night and are they loud. I think I read somewhere that I can replace the baffles to get a better sound and one that isn't quite so obnoxious.
Anybody have any experience here and any suggestions?
Also I haven't ridden the bike in a week but it seems I feel more heat comming off the exhaust.
I installed the V&H straight shot slip ons on my 99 FXDX last month. I just replaced the baffles last night with the "quiet baffles" - they went in pretty easily and do sound better. A bit more muted, but throatier - I like the sound. I ordered the baffles from CycleSpot - they have been a good source for the V&H stuff for me.
Install was straight forward - I did take off the mufflers and heat shields - opted not to drill a hole in the heat shield to access the screw holding in the original baffles - figured if I wanted to change back, it really wasn't that big of a hassle.

Yes, just order a set of the 'Quiet Baffles' from Vance & Hines, part number is on their webiste.......$30 each.
Take the slip-ons off again and undo the screw and remove what little there is of the standard baffle and reinsert the quiet baffle.
Much better sound, less obtrucive noise at idle, but still nice when giving it some beans.
If you intend dynoing the bike at some stage, drill a 5/16 inch hole in the end of the quiet baffle BEFORE you put them in.

Interesting idea, does that make much difference to power? What about extra noise? What about changing Fuelpak settings?

No, no......the quiet baffles have 'stopped' ends and on a dyno the tech will need to stick the 'sniffer' rod up into the head pipes, which can't be done because of the 'stopped' ends, so you need to drill the hole so the sniffer rod can be pushed far enough up into the head pipes beyond the baffles.......
