I ordered a tall boy seat for my electra glide from Big Sky. Waited 7 weeks it was out of stock at the factory. reason I waited was the price, around 100 bucks cheaper than the dealer here and free shipping and no tax.
And I have to say with the extra padding my shocks (Bitubos) work 100% better. Very Happy with the seat.
Mean City would be an option if the seat I have was the right shape. I've read the Sundowner moves you forward just a bit, which would be perfect for me since I'm always scooting forward on the seat to stay firmly planted on the pegs.
I didn't see the Surdyke thread. Wish I would have. In any event, I found a Sundowner at Steel City HD in Washington, PA. They have it in stock, at full price of course. I don't care as long as I have it for the trip. Now to see if Surdyke will give me any crap about canceling my order.

They absolutely will! You'll get hit with a 20% restocking fee and they'll tell you that once your order goes to "warehouse transfer" there's nothing they can do about it. So in the end you'll actually be paying a lot more than retail. Ask me how I know....
I would bet you my left nut that the "restocking fee" is a large percentage of Surdyke's business model. (Super shady) I understand COVID has slowed everything down but all 3 of my previous dealings with them were before covid and they all took more than 3 months to deliver.
Never had any problems with Surdyke...that being said, if you want something in a hurry, don't order from them. I suspect their model to keep prices low is to not have a lot of inventory. Everything is a trade-off, it's hard to beat their prices.
As far as companies that "sell things they don't have in stock" you've got to realize that exposing your inventory online is no small task and costs some coin to get done right. These small shops will list what they have and what they can get and deal with it order by order, their inventory and website are completely disconnected from one another...ask me how I know.

Wait up...that is not true. I had an order in with Surdyke and they emailed me when it went to backorder status so I canceled it, they refunded every cent, no fees. Now, if you try and cancel as the order is heading out the door or you return it that's a different matter. It's your responsibility to read their return policy before ordering, so that's on you brother.
Even if you call Surdyke and talk to a live person and request a stock check there is no guarantee the part is in their warehouse as the representative tells you. "That's been on back-order for awhile now but we have 10 in stock at our warehouse now for immediate shipment." Then the email says: "We're sorry, this part is on back-order and will ship in approximately 6-weeks." That means ten-weeks later it will ship and 5-7 days after that you may get the correct part you ordered.
I just don't need the frustration this outfit causes so no longer use them. I can't understand how they stay in business with such poor support. Lies & misrepresentation -- it's like a politician owns and runs the company.

The hell its not. I ordered a SE throttle body and 5.3 injectors from surdyke on 5/4/2020 and literally the next day I got an email saying that it was in warehouse transfer with an estimated delivery date of 5/18/2020. On 5/20/20 I got another email saying estimated delivery was now 6/4/2020. When I called to see what was up the woman I spoke to said that the parts were back ordered and Harley was quoting 2-12 weeks, and in some cases longer. Yeah thats right 2-12 weeks. Then when I told her I wanted to cancel the order because thats ridiculous she hit he with the restocking fee. At this point my bike was apart and I was looking at potentially 12 weeks or more of down time.
So yeah. It is true. If I would have known the parts werent in stock like it said on their website I would have never used Surdyke. So I guess it is on me for assuming the website was accurate.
Funny thing is, I ordered they exact same parts from the MoCo website and was able to get them overnighted.

Haven't used surdyke in a while...even before covid it could take 2 weeks to get stuff. Not a big deal in the off season but ill pay full price to avoid waiting during riding season. I've used new castle a few times and you can check if its in stock before you order so at least you'll know what you're in for. I just bought a sundowner off a member here a few weeks ago because my stock seat was torture after an hour and the ultra seat I bought is ok but its huge on my road king and kinda moves around...not good. The sundowner is great, I've ridden all day on it a few times and its very comfortable for me. I know everyone has a different *** so not every seat will work for everyone. It has a good riding position and its fairly narrow in front so it makes it easy to back up with my little legs.
