I think that is best. Because, i started loosening and tightening back and forth easily to see of it would maybe work loose with wd-40. Instead, the free play got less and less. Now its about to the point its a no go either way. I dont understand it. These new plugs are a week old?
Im trying "Deep Creep" sprayed around the top of the threads. Hopefully it will work itself down into the grooves. Im going to work it back and forth easily and see if that works? If not. Im taking it to a mechanic.
I just dont understand? These new plugs threaded in with my fingers. Its just weird?
Dry steel plated threads over tightened in softer cast aluminium, for whatever reason it galled and it doesn't take much with plug threads. When this happens the softer material bonds hard to the harder, basically cold welding itself on there now you have a hard high spot that's going to drag through the rest of the threads distorting or removing them completely hence why it got harder as you tried the in & out bit. Damage is done even if you get the plug out the threads in the heads are toast and need repairing or the plug will just gall again or worse case if the threads are bad enough blow the plug out when running.
Update. The "Deep Creep" it worked its way down the threads to loosen the gulled plug enough so i could remove it. And yes, obviously the damage is done. Ill be taking it to the mechanic to have this repaired. Thanks again y'all! Threads dont look good.
Always use anti-seize on plug threads when installing plugs...sorry this happened
I just put new plugs in my FXB last week, applied engine oil to threads as this is what the official HD manual says... will this be good enough as I dont have anti-seize ?
Manufacturers have been recommending engine oil since the invention of spark plugs. Anti-seize is better (higher temperature range) but you should be OK. Most parts stores sell small packets of anti-seize for "one time" use.
