Default FXDF 2014 Exhaust help

Hello Eveyone,

First time posting here. I have a 2014 fat bob with the stock exhaust.
Everyone has told me to get a 2-1 exhuast. But The fxdf has a 2-1-2 exhaust so i was wondering, Do i even need and exhaust? or will slip ons work for the performance increase?

Thank you for your help ahead of time

Welcome to the Forum - you've got a great ride ! Personally, I like the the FXDF/Wide Glide "Tommy Gun" stock exhaust, except for the two major restrictions: the cat converter sitting in the collector tube, and the muffs themselves. You will gain some performance and better sound by swapping out the muffs with some slip-ons, and even more performance if you can open up the collector and cut out the cat converter. However, considering the time and cost of doing such a mod, most owners just opt for a whole new exhaust. Another consideration to keep in mind: a tuner may be needed to optimize engine performance when changing out any of your exhaust parts. Hope that helps - ride safe !

Changing the exhaust will make a minimal difference in power. Slipons even less. The bike will be louder and you might think it's got more power, but unless you change the intake and get a good tuner you won't see much of an increase.

You can gain up to 10hp when you do a full stage 1... open air filter, new open exhaust (full exhaust, not slip ons), tuner.

I got the same bike. Had it for 5 years now.

When I got it,the first I did was to change to VH 3” slip ons ( I was looking at different exhaust, but at that time when I did not have much experience with Harley’s I would not put a lot of money into an exhaust), and a K&N filter that gave me a lot better sound and a little bit more power.
Than I put a VH Fp 3 tuner on, gave me more power.
I felt I was still missing some , so I then put the stage 1 backplate on, that gave me just that little more that I was missing.
When I do auto tuning sessions with the Fp 3 , that helps as well.
Off course, all is down to money and for some looks .

I have a '13 FXDF. I think my mods are in my signature? If not, I'm running factory head pipes, a gutted converter and Cycle Shack slip-ons on the back. It sounds GREAT. I'm probably leaving some horsepower on the table with the factory head pipes, but sound wise, it's AMAZING! Also running an Arlen Ness Stage 2 Big Sucker a/c and an SCT Vigilante tuner. When I had the a/c, tuner and JUST slip-ons, it was 71/91 at the back tire. Then I put on the gutted converter and never had it dyno'd again, so, I don't know what it's making now, but I know after 4-5yrs, it still surprises me when I give it a full twist!

The only exhaust you will notice a difference in and not be TOO LOUD is the Super Trapp. A lot of guys put LOUD pipes on their bikes and eventually stop riding. I've seen this on a lot of Craigslist bikes I've looked at in person. Mostly low mileage.

the Supertrapp is an excellent exhaust, have one on my low rider and has a bit more sound than the stock but nothing that will make enemies of your neighbors, that is with the full 20 discs in.
