Default Lifters

My WG is shy of 20k miles, was going to install some Woods TW 222 cams and tensioners this spring.
Should the lifters be changed too?
Do the lifter base covers come off to change them or drop them out of the cam cavity and reinstall from the bottom up ?

My 94 went in from the bottom, also I'd change then if I were in there.

You are in there replace them. The cost won't break you and it is cheap insurance. It you do use good ones not HD's hit or miss stuff.

When replacing the cams you should also replace the inner cam bearings to full compliment Koyo's.. I just ordered the S&S Precision lifters.. They combined the regulars and the premiums...

If you have a Twin Cam (I assume you do because you said "cams") the inboard lifters can NOT be installed from the bottom of the bores. YES the tappet covers have to come off to install lifters.

For reference, the casting in the left side engine case prevents the inboard lifters from coming out of or going into the lifter bores (from the bottom).
