I am new here. I have a 07 Street Bob, went to start it today wouldn't start and then the key fell/popped out. The ignition switch is now stuck between the on and off position. I had to disconnect the battery to shut it off. This is my first Harley and I do not know a lot about this type of tumbler . I know a lot of people have had problems with this and the barrel key. Any ideas on how to get it to one position, either off or on?
Not sure a lot of people have issue with the key. I never have.
You may want to spry some WD 40 in there and gently work the key
the key is heavily worn, and the key fell out of the tumbler leaving it between on and off. It also appears that the tumbler moved back into the frame around 1/2 inch. I can't get the key back in, I've tried picks, screwdrivers, wd40 etc. I can't seem to get it back to either on or off.
I had a spare key and ended up filing off the locating tab on the outside of the barrel. It worked like a charm so thank you to whoevers post I read on whatever thread. I'm thinking about switching it to a hidden kill switch so I don't have this problem again. Any ideas for a hiding spot not much space on the bob.
Barrel locks are one of the least secure types of locks, if its stuck a little WD40 and a small screwdriver will get you taken care of. although since you have the key just spray some lube in there and wiggle that bastard around till its good.
in my saddle bag i carry a 2 way switch with the Harley plug on the other side and if the switch ever breaks i can just pop off the seat and plug in the switch and its good to go. And no I'm not worried about security because as i said barrel locks are super unsecure and i can usually unlock a barrel lock with my pick in the same speed as i can with a key that's how pathetic those things are.
