Got a 2001 FXDX and i am prepping it for powdercoating and when i removed the petcock i saw there was some grey flakes on it. once i got the fuel gage unit out i could see the whole tank is grey on the inside, (stock coating) it is all bubbly and i can remove some large chunks (3"x4") in the area i can reach my fingers. I am under the impression that i need to reapply a coating once it gets back from coating because the heat will destroy it if i do it beforehand. I plan on using red-koat as it seems to be the go to for tank coatings and has some stellar reviews for its strength and durability.
My question is how TF do i remove the coating that's inside my tank now? I've heard that i can fill it with soap and water and drywall screws and shake the **** out of it but that takes forever. Is there any chemicals or solvents that'll work with the drywall screws to do it faster/easier?
