Changed oil

So I changed my oil and when I drained the oil pan there was a couple flakes of metal how worried should I be ?

No worries unless there are lots of large flakes. Pictures of the plug with the flakes on would be useful.

No pictures and the plug had a small amount of thick black stuff and when I wiped it off on a clean rag really didn’t see anything shiny

Normal, especially if it was the first oil change. Shine a bright light on the oil or look at it in the sun and you might see a whole bunch of glitter.

It’s a 2009 fxd with 18,000mile is is on the odometer but I bought it used and think I am the third owner

I still think you’re ok. I’m just a DIYer, so somebody else with more expertise/experience might chime in, but a couple of little flakes and seeing fine glitter in the sunlight wouldn’t alarm me too much.
