I'm needing an engine guard for my 2004 Dyna Super Glide with forward controls. Nearly always, the parts descriptions specify they only work with 2006 and later Dynas. I was told by a HD technician that the Dyna frame changed in 2006. Does anyone know why engine guards don't work with pre 2006 Dynas?
(I know some engine guards claim they work with forward controls, but the ones I have tried block the tip of my boot and I have slip my foot under the shift lever from behind, not from the side -- in addition to only the toes of my boot on the foot peg.)
I dont know, but I guess because its two different frames
That could be the reason. But is the front end of the frame what is different -- or is the back end?
My instinct is that the guards probably work on '04s and '06s - but because there are a limited number of sales of pre 2006 Dyna engine guards, the manufacturers just don't bother to evaluate if their guard will work on the early models.
But I don't know what the difference is in the frames.
I cant say with 100% certainty but wasn't 06 the first year of the 96 inch and the 6 speed in the Dynas? Maybe that's got something to do with it? IDK...
I dont know about the engine guard, but I bought some further forward mid controls that are for 2006 and up Dynas and they were a perfect fit on my 1998 Dyna. As nevil said, buy from someone with a good return policy and try it out.

lol I was just sarcastic. Frames are different, thats why most 05 and older frame parts dont fit 06+.
maybe your crash bar fit, maybe not. but if somebody already tested it and made it work, I reckon you for sure wouldnt made this post cause you been reading about it in another post. I also might be wrong
