Dyna questions
OP, if you gonna work on your bike, start with the one with the best base for your build. Street bobs comes with wire spoke wheels and some of then came with a fixed bar clamp. Other then that, street bobs just a stripped out dyna with a bobbed rear fender and single disc brake in front.
Seems like youre in love with the low rider s, kinda club style look. Youll need the regular top tree for your risers and mids/forward mids foot controls to get the same ergonomics. For cosmetics, its easier to get a dyna with a black engine.
No Im not saying street bobs are the best one to start with. Get a picture on your end result and then it will be easier
Stock form FXDB has a few limitations depending on your intentions for the bike.
IMO, the FXDB may be the best newer factory bike to mod, again JMO.
PS, this is not a touring bike, but have done many 500+ days on one.
Sore A$$, LOL

All bikes are great platform to build with but it depends on what youre doing. So no, I would not say street bob is the best for you to start on.
You have wire spoke wheels. Do you want alloy wheels or spokes?
Do you want apes or t bar?
black or grey engine?
Chopped fender or full?
you have to decide.

Not what this thread is about, but you're partially correct. All '06+ Dyna frames except the Wide Glide are 29 deg. The Fat Bob is a different frame (rear fender struts are wider, like the Wide Glide) but the head tube is still 29 deg. But the Fat Bob uses -1.5 deg rake trees, and the Low Rider uses 1.5 deg trees. I haven't been able to find anything concrete, but I believe the Low Rider S used the same 1.5 deg rake trees, as I found a few articles referencing the S model having 30.5 deg rake (29 + 1.5). Street Bob and Super Glide/Super Glide Custom have 0 deg trees. The Wide Glide (34 deg rake frame) uses 3 deg rake trees with 2" longer fork tubes.
Here is a FXDL upper tree on top of a FXDC upper tree. While the 1.5 deg rake is certainly not visible from this photo, the reduced offset to keep the trail measurement in check is.
As I mentioned earlier, the Fat Bob actually has negative rake in the trees. I assume this is to make it handle a little quicker, and possibly counteract the extra weight/stability of the fat front wheel & tire.
But back to the point of this thread. I agree with what others have said above, if you plan on customizing it, find one that looks closest to the look you're going for stock form (or previously modded) and you'll be money ahead. For the most part Dyna parts are very interchangeable between models and are very easy to customize. It gets expensive really quick swapping stuff out thought, so the less you have to change the better.
