... "Related" my Friend, "Related" ... and really wasn't calling for snake_eyes to comment
Anyways ...
Since you @Max Headflow , brought up a good point about the new +2 "Travel" and "coil bind", I thought I'd do a little checking and follow-up
Total Stock "Physical" Travel is approx 4-15/16" (4-11/16 + 1/4" of Total Rebound (top out) spring compression)
New +2 "Physical" Travel is now approx 6-15/16" (~6.938" ref)
RT FRSP S4430100 Springs have a 170mm Travel (6.693") ... Hmm
The travel seems a little longer than I thought.. What about the check valve. Is that in the end of the tube?
Do you have the check valve? Wondering what it looks like.. Also if the check valve don't sit inside that bottom part does it cut the travel? The pics you show of the bottom piece looks like there's an O ring or is it just a plastic version of the 41mm check valve?
@multihdrdr Thanks a bunch. So the plastic ring floats to allow more oil to move into the area between the tope of the valve and the top of the damper? It does look like the flow would be restricted. Also the plastic ring has some pretty big gaps in it.. The 41mm tube Had about 0.16mm (0.0063 in) on an 18mm tube clearance with a steel floating valve when the valve closed. I bet it seals better closed on rebound and flows more open.
Sorry if this is OT but the info is great.
If Snake eyes gets a chance, it would be good to know what he gets for travel. Easy to do after assembly but before capping the preload.
I think that the bottom cone completely slows the fork to limit the real effective travel but i simply measure with the fork empty and not worry about rebound spring compression. One adds travel, the other taketh away..
snake_eyes, how many times have you "Bottomed Out" with your existing set-up? ... Any?
Sheeeeit, I'm still waiting for the replacement damper rods. I'm guessing it'll be a couple of weeks before the forks are back together then the rest of the bike needs to go back together also. And since I live in Minnesoviet, it's going to be late April before the weather is warm enough and the roads have been cleared anyhow, ****, might even be May.
