Default Handlebars ???

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get a couple of inches more pullback on my 02 FXDXT. Today the local H-D dealer sent me home with a set of bars they said would fit (they didn't have dimples). I have looked on the internet for weeks trying to find a set of bars that will
fit. I can't use risers because the speedo and tach are mounted to the clamp. My dealer is useless. They told me to bring in the bars and try to find one that is similar. Doesn't anyone have a "what fits what" chart? Most sites on the internet don't even have dimensions and there is no agreement on what is being measured anyway. Any ideas? By the way, the FXDXT is an orphan so Harley sortta abandoned those of us who have them.

I had 5 inch risers on my fxdx for a while theres plenty of wire under the tank for up to 12 inch apes that go up to the handlebar controls and the tach and speedo wires are plenty long enough

the dealers won't be much help when it comes to aftermarket stuff, and as far as the HD stuff they'll only tell you what the catalog says. Just because the catalog says that a particular part will only fit such and such bike, doesn't necessarily mean it's so.
I don't see what the problem is as far as the speedo being on the handlebar. The fxd is the same way. One option would be to get a set of t-bar handlebars (handlebars with the riser attached to the bars) then you can get any rise you choose. Accutronix makes a very nice bracket for t-bars that you can mount the speedo to.

Couple of options: go to Flanders handlebar site and look for your stock bars then search for ones with more pullback/rise, what ever you want. Another option, one of the guys over here did it, was to get the softail standard (I THINK) risers. That pulled the bars back about 2 inches and up 1 (AGAIN I THINK). Problem with the risers is that your gauges stand up more, but they're behind the fairing anyway.

Hope this helps.

There are several aftermarket brackets for the speedo and tach you can look at JPcycles

Thanks for the input guys. I went back to the dealer and got a pair of reduced pullback bars for the V-Rod. They are wide enough and fit great. Now the downside. There are no dimples for wires so I am pulling out my wiring and routing them through the bars. It needed to be done anyway. I think I have to disconnect the plugs under the seat, remove the molex pins, route the wires through the bars, install grommets, reinstall the molex pins into the connectors, and mount the bars. Today is Thursday. I might miss a ride day Saturday. The dealer told me the molex connectors were under the gas tank but the wires go into the frame and come out behind the tank. More later.

Finally got the job done. It took several calls to the H-D dealer but I got it! I installed V-Rod reduced reach bars on my 02 FXDXT. I had to remove the fairing, gas tank, battery, back fender and seat to get to the wires. H-D ran the wires through the frame backbone then doubled up the harness and stuffed it into the backbone. You have to push then pull until all of the connectors come out of the frame up front. Next I had to take the pins out of the connectors, run them through the bars, etc. Stuffing the harness back up the frame backbone is tough. I found out there is an access boot on the back fender that comes out to allow access to the harness from behind. I think you would have to remove the back wheel to get to it. Retaped the harness, put in new wire ties, reconnected all wires, installed mirrors, put it all back together, and voila, it starts and all of the controls work!!! As a result my Dyna got a thorough cleaning and some wire routings were improved. I love the bars. They are about 2 inches higher and two inches further back. Running the wires through the bars improves the looks quite a bit. Next week I am getting a Saddleman gel seat. Piece of cake. I can't wait for some warm weather.
