I finally got around to installing my Big Bear rear mount. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to do but not impossible. I ended up super gluing the supplied nylock nuts inside their “pockets” to keep them from constantly falling out during install. There’s no instructions and all the videos available are for early versions of this mount and not all of the details apply to the current version. So there’s that. There are a few little thing they could do to improve.

As for the function…. well it does what they claim. The bike feels rock solid when you’re really pushing it. However the vibrations in the lower rpm range are ridiculous. I mean bad.

Did you loosen the center bolt in the Predator? The new rear mount probably wants to see the whole engine moved forward 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch. When you replaced the front mount, if it was collapsed. the rear mount had taken a set farther back.

IIRC, that center bolt has Loctite on it, so you'll have to remove it completely and reinstall it. Then, loosen everything up and let the engine resettle where it wants to be.

My Predator is still sitting in a box, watching this thread. I had bad luck with a Cycle Hauss front motor mount (bagger style) - which introduced A LOT of vibration. Yes, I know it’s a Harley. I also know what’s normal and what’s not. This was bad. But someone said maybe I should have loosened the rear shocks or something else - I’ll have to re-read the post and maybe try again.

My new hesitation about installing the predator are thanks to this thread, for saying rear mount will wear faster. Stock rears generally last a long time. Rather not have it become a wear item. I should probably leave well enough alone, I find my handling pretty good - my FXR is obviously better, but the Dyna hasn’t protested against anything I’ve done in a while. But then again, I’m in the land of flat, straight, mind numbing boredom. So there’s that.

If anything it extends it by reducing the fore and aft stresses on the rear mount. (IMHO)

Predator has been great but it does add a weird vibration around 3k rpms but I'm usually above or slightly below that rpm so it isn't much of a factor even with metal pegs. I have not experienced any problems with it causing excessive wear to the rear rubber mount at all. I added a rear stabilizer because there's plenty of fast sweeping turns around here that have rain grooved pavement. I've had a few FXRs also and I'm currently building a touring FXR but I'm doing fresh Harley rubber for the pivot blocks, Bareknuckle swingarm bearing kit, and a Kinetic up front with an alloy art plate. A lot of people bitching about failing rubber engine mounts usually use Drag Specialties or something else of that nature. What brand of rubber mounts do the Chopper Hauss/Big Bear motor mounts come with? I bet it isn't the nicer Harley ones because they cost over twice as much. A Dyna is its own beast with the way the swingarm mounts and it simply needs an extra $$$ helping hand to make it handle right at speed. Stabilizers and a power train alignment would honestly come before suspension if I were to do it all again.

My Dyna is a 1998 Evo Dyna, and HD no longer makes a rear mount for them so I have to use Drag Specialties Taiwan mounts. I did find a NOS HD mount on ebay that was about 10 years old and and it failed also. HD still makes rear mounts for Twin Cam Dynas and, although they are a different part number than EVO mounts they look similar. Anyone know how they are differant if at all? Also, for me anyway, engine alignment is not my issue, I have read extensivly on how to do this and its alignment is dead on, and the bike handles great at all speeds.

I don't but if you want my old dyna mount for comparison, I'll send it to you for the cost of the postage.

Or, if you want me to measure something on it, I'll do that free!

Thanks for the offer but I have held both new and old style mounts in my hands and compared them and other than some different stampings in the metal body, they appear the same. I figured that if they were different part numbers, they must be different in some way but I could be wrong.

You're probably right. Could it be a simple case of supercession? Since it spans models, maybe the thread is broken.

I will look into it tonight. Something is definitely off.
