Ed, lookin at your pix, I thought you had wrapped around
the o2 fittings. Must be the black paint.
I had noticed that most of the ones I'd seen they started below the O2 sensors I figured there was a reason for it.Once I got going and saw how flexible the soaked tape was I knew I could have started from before the sensor and it might even have made it a bit cooler. I had heard that heat shields were more effective but I had never seen the ones for Thunderheader and couldn't find them on they're web site. Also I do like the rat rod look of wrapped headers and think it suits the bob perfectly. Check out this pic

Nice job you've done one the ratsickle Ed. Very nice indeed.
Where'd ya get the perforated shields??
I'd like to get one and cut it down about in half
just enough to keep my footwear from rubbing through
and/or gettin all burned up on my newly wrapped Rineharts.
I cut up the stock shields and drilled the hell out of em.I know most people are hesitant to do any thing with the stock exhaust or other stock parts because they might need them some day but I've found they usually just sit around and collect dust. Now, how do you post pictures that just give me error messages and headaches?
If you pay attention you can often find a piece in the right shape with an attached clamp.
I'm going to be looking to cut out a skid plate soon I'm still scraping the Thunderheader in hard right turns it'd be a shame to tear up my brand new tape work..

Keep us updated on the skid plateEd. Sounds interesting.
Let me know if it's alright to use your photo, (below),
on a webpage I am working on.
Pipewrapping is the subject of the page.
Ed - I agree with mud, those heat shields are cool. The skid plate doesn't look half bad either. I may have to copy your idea as well. The whole reason I wrapped my pipes was because they were cooking my legs (and the black finish from Thunderheader was garbage).
If anyone is interested here are some pics of what the wrap looks like unpainted after about 12,000 miles, and then removed and painted. It fades from the original charcoal color to a light tan, but a few coats of bbq paint fixed it right up.
