Default 1000k checkup

Going in tomorrow for my 1000k check-up. Just wondered how often you change your oil. Thinking of going back at 2500 instead of the 5000 recommended check up. Should I change the oil at 2500 , check things over, and not go back until 5000k? thanks guys

Um... not to be a smart ***, but I assume you mean 1K miles? 1000K miles is like... a million

1000k. Do the inner primary bearings last that long now?

The dealer will take your bike at any milage, its only money, take it in at 5000, but if your rich like most of us, take it in at 2500.

I agree with Duke ...
You can take it in any time to the stealer and they will tell you... "Sure we'll.... ( insert whatever work type here ) ... for you."..that will only run you... ( insert stealer prices here... thus the name ..stealer..).

Unless you are one of those folks that just absolutely has no time and cant do it yourself due to that type of limitation... get yourself an HD service manual (worth the price) and your own fluids/parts/tools and provided you are mechanically inclined.. (modestly) do the service yourself.

I find it very cathartic actually.. being one with the bike.. keeping MY money in MY pocket...

Good luck..

yuppers - I heard it all at teh dealer as we all did upon purchase of the bike, how imperative it is to return at 1K for service - blah-blah-blah.. can't blame em they are only trying to make a buck - but I agree if your modestly mechically inclined you can change all the fluids yourself and save some money - and ... it makes you feel good to doit yourself and spend time with your bike maintaining it.

I am running all HD fluids right now, but only becuase I am fluid changining maniac, :-) I plan on doing it again around 2K, and adding the Redline Shockproof in the tranny and primary and Castrol 20-50W dino in the motor.
