Shift Lever
The original did strip. The transmission shaft looks like it's ok. I intend to tap to a larger size bolt unless I can fit a lock nut underneath. The flange is going to be ground down if I use it.
I may be hitting the shifter too hard. It was loose and I may stripped it by over tightening. Not sure why it stripped.

So the splined part of the linkage is stripped. You will have to replace the linkage. Get the correct bolt and torque to factory recommend spec. Take it easy on the shifter arm pressure, lol. You don’t need to stand on it.

As John CC says, a larger bolt probably won't fit the shaft groove. Then you're into grinding the groove bigger to accept the larger bolt. Helicoil or similar to repair the threads which will cost you $20 or so or replace the shift arm. Too bad you can't get a nut on the end of it. I've seen repairs to stripped grooves done with a Dremel and fine steel rods in places so they'll grip.
According to the other thread you can slip the new part in without removing the primary, an you've got nothing to loose with the old one...
Looks like it's dependent on the model year whether there is enough clearance to tilt the lever inboard and slide it out. There's still another alternative in the first link below, so you don't have to remove the primary.
